People have been talking about green tea.  Most of us are talking about using green tea on weight loss.  Some use it for its health benefits.  In between all these, we often hear about Match Green Tea.  What is this Matcha Green Tea?  Is this different from the green tea?  Or is it somehow mixed with something to create the matcha thing?  We have been actually using this in make our green tea truffles and green tea ice cream.

Matcha Tea or Matcha Green Tea is a type of green tea from Japan.  It is made by grinding the green tea leaves into very fine powder.  This powder is then mixed with hot water to give-off a bright green, frothy beverage that has a rich flavor and is naturally sweet.

The caffeine content is for 1 teaspoon (2 grams) of Matcha powder dissolved in 8oz of water.   The caffeine content can slightly differ depending on the quality and kind of Matcha being used.

Koicha (thick Matcha) is prepared using the twice the amount of Matcha powder so it would have twice the caffeine.

Matcha tea is high in antioxidants because of the fact that the whole leaves are being consumed and not just brewed. Matcha must be kept in a tin, airtight container as oxygen can quickly cause it to degrade.

Matcha green tea powder is also used in other products such as green tea ice cream and other desserts.

In the west, Matcha is finding it's way into coffee houses where they use the powder in lattes, smoothies and other drinks.
